  • Lowden Guitars stand out for their exceptional craftsmanship, innovative bracing system, and unique tonewood combinations. Hand built in Northern Ireland and known for rich, articulate tones with excellent sustain and projection, our guitars are particularly favoured by fingerstyle players. The guitars feature comfortable, ergonomically designed necks and are hand-built with meticulous attention to detail, from the bracing to the finish. Lowden’s focus on tonal richness, clarity, and customisation options makes them a top choice for musicians seeking high-quality, nuanced acoustic and electric instruments.

  • Your Lowden guitar is supplied with a hard shell case that will provide protection when travelling or shipping, however this is not infallible. The most vulnerable parts of your guitar are at the base of the soundbox, and the headstock, and extra care should be taken to avoid unnecessary impacts to these areas.

When travelling with your guitar, prior to leaving, prepare your instrument by de-tensioning the strings and ensuring that there are no loose items in the case. You may also wish to place some soft padding material under the headstock area to provide extra support.

Never leave your guitar in a car on a sunny day. The rapid increase in temperature will cause softening of the glue and wood shrinkage compromising the integrity of your instrument and potentially causing damage. If you must travel with your guitar in a hot vehicle, ensure that the case is not directly in the sun; the best place is in the back seat. If travelling by air, the best place is of course on-board with you in the overhead compartment or the suit locker.

  • Please contact us to enquire about becoming an authorised repair shop or luthier.

  • There are many qualified luthiers who are capable of making repairs and adjustments to our guitars. However, we strongly recommend speaking to an authorised Lowden dealer or contacting us directly before any work is carried out on your guitar, as unauthorised repairs or adjustments make invalidate your warranty.

  • Lowden guitars are built using the finest tonewoods and materials sourced from around the world. We are committed to sustainability, and work with our suppliers to ensure timber and parts are harvested in a sustainable fashion. We use reclaimed woods where possible, including Alaskan sitka spruce from fallen trees and mahogany previously used in church pews and furniture. We aim to provide recyclable packaging in all cases.

  • George Lowden has been making guitars for over 50 years and the company has been through several iterations in that time. Whilst we don't have detailed records covering all periods of production, we can date your guitar fairly accurately based on the serial number, model designation etc.

  • We strongly recommend that any truss rod adjustments are only carried out by a trained specialist. Lowden Guitars cannot take responsibility for any damage caused by the guitar carrying out these adjustments. Our truss rods on guitars manufactured before December 2021 use a standard 'L' shaped 5mm allen key to make adjustments. For guitars built after December 2021 it is a 4mm key.

The truss rod itself can be a little difficult to access due to the strut running across the soundboard a few inches in front of it. However, if you have a soft surface to rest the guitar on, slacken off all 6 strings and set the guitar upright (headstock pointed towards the ceiling), then reach in through the sound hole and up towards the neck. De-tune the strings so you can easily put your hand through the sound hole. This should help you to clear the brace and access the truss rod. The adjusting nut is hidden in the sound box towards the top of the guitar.

Hold the allen key by the longer side and feel around for the adjusting nut when your hand is inside the sound hole. When found turn the key a quarter turn each time, clockwise to straighten the neck and anti-clockwise to allow it to curve.
